Police in Los Angeles reported a dozen arrests early in the morning on Thursday after fans took to the streets following the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series win over the New York Yankees in Game 5 in New York.

Among the vandalism and crimes committed included a bus being set on fire, stores vandalized and robbed and fireworks being illegally set off, with some in the crowds even throwing objects as LAPD.  Police said that to control “several hostile and violent crowds” that ‘less lethal munitions’ were used, with two people booked for misdemeanor failure to disperse, four people for misdemeanors for receiving stolen property and six people for felony commercial burglary. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said the problems were caused by “a very small segment of east Los Angeles communities. Most of them were out celebrating because they love their Dodgers.”

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (METRO) said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times“Metro is disappointed and angered by the senseless act of vandalism on one of our buses following the Dodgers World Series Win [sic] earlier this evening.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in a statement: “As we celebrate this achievement tonight and in the coming days, violence will not be tolerated. LAPD is currently on tactical alert and has activated a strategic plan to protect communities and businesses, which includes proactive deployment and a coordinated strategy with regional partners to ensure that all Angelenos are able to celebrate safely.”

Los Angeles will celebrate the Dodgers’ World Series championship with a parade Friday, and a celebration at Dodger Stadium.
